For any mission in the game, personally I dont care what class you are, as long as you aren't a complete idiot. I finished Thunderhead kep last night with 2 rangers 2 eles, 2 warriors and 2 henchman monks. We breezed through it whereas I have failed this mission with the so called perfect group a number of times, problem was it was usually a perfect group of complete idiots.

PUG's are evil and something you are forced to put up with.
Other than that, once you get to the desert, you will not like being anything but a ele warrior or monk. |

Depends where you are. In thunderhead keep and the first RoF mission, nukers espically ones that can kill without a direct spell are valueable.
In tombs the ideal group as far as I can tell is 2 or 3 W/?, 3 Mo/?, 2 els, and whatever. But then again a lot of groups are smiting monks builds or spike el builds or spirit spam ranger groups... |

We really do not care what profession they are (Since We are monks) as long as they are Respectful,Mature,Kind,Considerate, and LISTEN to us when we say:"STOP..HEAL..RECHARGE..!"

usually i like a group
1-2 warriors : Stabby stabby or smashy smasky....just as long as they can take a hit...i perfer W/R for the healing and poison mixed with a variety of good melee. 1 monk (i am against the notion of needing two monks because i have been in a lot of groups where good char from other classes survive without babysitting....was in a group in uw where someone talked to the ghost, and still was standing there almost idle ) 1 ranger : traps, artillery....ability to change damage types... 1 mesmer : lock'em down, black em out, blind um, humiliate and sap them 1 necro :blood....speed up regen, curses to cripple different enemies 1-2 Elementalists nuke'em till they glow, (then shoot them in the dark) Again it depends on the encounter, but alot of classes have counters and attacks specific for what is needed so it would be fine for a group like this. The old standard format...I have been trying for a while to test this out with non-henchmen.....but people are just not patient enough, unless i use my monk char to make the group, but then again I am not as good of a monk as a warrior. Edit*** forgot.... COMMON SENSE....PATIENCE !!!!! the most important.... This is just my opinion about what works....i have done it before results may vary....not available in all places....rules and restrictions apply, standard warning Last edited by Crimson_1190; Aug 03, 2005 at 12:34 PM // 12:34.. If you're going to be a smiting monk make sure you tell any group prior to joining them, that's about all I can say.
If you put everything in Healing Prayers & Divine; you'll be loved. |

If by 'most people' you mean the average Joe in the game, Warriors would probably feature next up after Monks. Elementalists probably follow, as well as Necromancers.
Rangers and Mesmers are possibly the most neglected profession in the game, from what I've seen. Not due to any shortage of them, but simply because your average random-invite Warrior/Monk simply doesn't grasp their effectiveness. Mesmers usually end up bottom of the list, though I tend to notice that there really aren't many of those. Don't get me started on smiting monks. I had one once, thinking it'd be loads of fun. Well, it wasn't. You get shouted at for not being a healing monk, and people get quite irritated with you when you refuse to completely re-spec your character for their benefit. |

Having played through the game now with my first char. (R/N), I'm really beginning to see just how needed a good healing monk is in the later parts of the game. It's not so easy to see in pre-searing or early Ascalon, because everyone is using henchies, and believe their W/Mo build will see them through the game. Also, let's face it - when you first start the game and create your char, how many of you were thinking "I want the class that will kick most ass", and how many of you were thinking "I want to just hang back during all the action and heal people"?
(not being derogatory in any way to any class...just stating an opinion) In truth, I want to try out all the classes, and if it means playing the game through 6 with different primaries, and swap out secondaries at the Crystal Desert, then so be it. IMO, though, it doesn't matter what class you choose at the beginning as long as you're good at it!! |

Depends on the group really, but you have to keep in mind when you are sitting there LFG in a misson area, with your necro, mesmer or ranger that a vast majority of the quests/missons in the game can be completed by a decently skilled group of solely warriors and monks. The PvE game for the most part is extremely simple, and what most groups want is to merely be able to blow through the misson as fast as possible. Which means a set of tanks, a healing/dmg prevention base, and high dps, in other words your classic Warrior, Monk, Ele, group.
That is not to say that the necro, mesmer and ranger class has nothing to contribute to a PvE group, but most of the time its just icing on the cake. Why bother using a slot for a SD mesmer when most of the enemy healers and casters in the game can be stomped flat in a few seconds? Why bring necro for support when you can merely pace/pull the mobs? Why bring a ranger for conditions/spirits/dmg when an ele can do more dmg and the when conditions and spirits are a per-encounter set of skills anyway? |
